We, the women, are always used for your greed and in your cuss words. But, not anymore! We endured your oppression for many years. Now we don't! Be ready to be disturbed with our screams, our success, and the equality we deserve. Are you?

  1. Dear Society

Please check your emotion with the statements. I have a small request for you!

Women's existence is my privilege, proudly said, society!

Abuse, Rape, and Murder are the rights I own...so I can do whatever the hell I want to do with women's identity!

Women think they will gain equality without Men; what a pun!?

If you agree with every statement above, I doubt the degree you have earned has neither taught you to solve problems deeply nor made you human and ethical.

Sorry, your degree, privilege, pride is successfully wasted for all these years.

We, the women, are always used for your greed and in your cuss words. But, not anymore!

We endured your oppression for many years. Now we don't!

Be ready to be disturbed with our screams, our success, and the equality we deserve. Are you?

The perfect combo of nature and nurture is a woman who can generate new beings and help them grow. Have you ever felt the pain of that life?

For ages, male figures have taken advantage of this blessing and started bluffing about the woman's lack of strength. But, not anymore!

Woman -the symbol of patience has no patience left now. They want to be the torrential stream and take away all the injustice given in the name of justice. Women no longer will stay just as victims; they will be warriors and history creators. Mark that closely!

Let’s go back to history then!

Many marches and movements were devoted to women's rights, women empowerment, and against women violence. These movements have made history back then but the voices were muted and unheard. Among such movements and protests, Chile's protest done by women in 20 19 has created a history. The movement of Chile's protest "Rapist in Your Path," having the anti-rape anthem, "The Rapist is You," done at Valparaiso on November 20, 2019, is one of its kind.

Let me tell you more about the movement...

A women's group, "LasTesis” wrote the viral song "The Rapist Is You". Ten thousand women of all ages dressed in black and wearing red scarves and blindfolds roared their voices in the city's national stadium of Chile. The lyrics had it saying, "And it was not my fault nor where I was nor what I wore; its cops, the judges, the president, the rapist is you."

The choreography had stomping of the feet marking the marching towards equality, waving hands and pointing in various directions marking the abusers, and squatting marking the police's oppression. This protest was the ultimate alternative for the woman to show that rape-culture is not what they signed up for being a citizen in Chile.

The emotions, the participation, and the determination of one of its kind protests in Chile raised hopes. The urge to spread it developed instantly. Similar kinds of protests were done by women of Latin American countries where women's rights are not acknowledged. Europe became another destination and eventually around the globe.

Context of the increasing number of Rapes in Nepal

In 2020, the COVID-19 not just brought the economic downfall and inhibition of Visit Nepal 2020's success; it brought the increment in depression, suicide, and domestic violence, especially sexual. The lockdown brought the cases of incest, marital rapes, rape case similar to the Nirbhaya case, acts to prevent filling complaints, suicide by the victims, and the murder of the victims.

A patriarchy-driven nation like Nepal, who has just started practicing the federal system, has suffered tremendously. But the Nepali-daughters in Nepal have to suffer more. The yet to solve injustice-stricken rape and murder case of Nirmala Panta, a teenage girl from Western Nepal, was already making people question women's security in Nepal.

So did Women stand for women?

A nation where the president is a woman herself and is the mother of two daughters have not spoken any factual statements regarding this issue. What will the women expect from the power-driven patriarchal government? Don’t you men think how structurally we are caged in an unjust society?

Interestingly, the murder after the rape of an innocent twelve-year-old girl, Sangita B.K, heated female MPs' blood. They demanded to draft the law, which secures the capital punishment of the rapist or say rapier (rapist +murderer).

We supported Hang The Rapist demands.

Side by side, the public started the “Hang The Rapist” demands. Since the Nepali Constitution has a law not to draft a law on capital punishment, we saw no significant government steps. But we as a community are growing!

But Hang the rapist is not the ultimate solution.

“Ajhai Kati Sahane” Team is also one of the various teams and organizations working against women oppressions in Nepal. The team feels that the increase in literacy has also increased rape rates. The coverage of media is another contributing factor to get rape cases more in the limelight.

Prakriti Bhattarai Basnet, one of the pioneers of this team, firmly says," Nepal is still fighting with poverty. A rapist is regarded as a superior guardian if he promises to feed the whole family and in return, he gets a chance to rape their daughter. This country certainly has an individual in the chair more powerful than the system. In addition, criminal investigation always tilts toward rich people. Thus Hang the Rapist demand would backfire and get the victim to be the culprit instead."

The Trend and the Creativity, “The Rapist is You” Protest in Nepal

To address the prevention of Hang the Rapist demand and project the protest against rape in a creative way, the “Ajhai Kati Sahane” team launched the "Balatkari hos tah" protest in Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu. On October 10, 2020, A flash mob of twenty-five women, following the social distancing,  sang "the rapist is you" in the Nepali version with the traditional Newari music (Dhime Baja). It grabbed the attention of a large number of audiences and media.

So, Was, “The Rapist is You” protest just a publicity stunt? No, it was not. It was an independent protest supported by various agents. It was the rage against the rapist, the exhibition of hatred and violence given by the system to victims, and the action to alert the system that women will not stay suppressed.

Similar kinds of protest are being done in various parts of the country. However, it has been typecast as a protest against males: it’s gender-specific, which is not true. The team has been clarifying that they called out on the system in Nepal; not all the male members.

The Rapist is You  protest  does not  have a gender-based agenda

Post the movement, on a live session Miss Prakriti Bhattrai Basnet and Miss Sagoon Bhetwal added that the team is working on making audio and video about the "anthem", making collaboration with Nepal Police, and welcoming and helping the new groups interested in promoting this type of protest from the grassroot level.

Ms. Sagoon added, instead of finding loopholes within the protests and the participants, let's know the protest's ultimate demand. Let's have a clear concept of movement and its urge before jumping to conclusions. Let's be precise and stay united on "Making the system practice equity and justice rather than questioning and criticizing the efforts."

So, are you still going to be a literate idiot and a misogynist or help the girls and women?

Are you going to be the blind follower of the “traditions” or use knowledge to change the stereotyped notions?

Are you still going to judge a woman's character based on her dress or are you going to respect her choices?

If you opt for the later options in the above questions, congratulations you are a real example of a real human being.

But if you still chose the first option in each question then I am sorry you tell you that you suffer from TMJD-Traditional Judgemental Misogynist Disorder.

Do not worry, We, women will still take care of you although you have developed them because of jealousy and fear.

And if you have the audacity to refrain from our support, Our voices and success will kill your egos and notions either way.

Dear society please be updated with the rest of the show!

Yours,

Fighter Female
